Most Romantic Spots in Europe
Today is St. Valentine’s Day so I’m publishing this post in honor of ‘lovers day’. I don’t believe in the commercialism of Valentine’s Day where people feel obliged to buy flowers or candy. I do however think it’s one day of the year where we can celebrate and realize the love we have in our lives. As I’ve always said, everyday should be Valentine’s Day.
Are you the romantic type? Do you look for travel destinations to celebrate your special relationship? Going away to a romantic location could be for a birthday, wedding anniversary, or ‘just because’. I want to share with you what I think are the most romantic spots in Europe. I’ve been to more than 50 cities or towns across Europe and have found some of them extremely romantic.
Venice, Italy
Ah, Venice… it’s at the top of my list for the most romantic spots in Europe. It’s a great place for a honeymoon to celebrate love. What’s more romantic than snuggling in a venetian gondola as you are gently rowed through fairy tale scenery?
There’s just something about the ambiance of Venice that makes you feel ‘lovey-dovey’. From walking through the narrow cobblestone alleyways, watching the boats parade along the canals, or gazing at the brightly colored buildings, you feel the love in this romantic place.
Paris, France
Everyone knows that Paris is the city of lovers. I’ve been to Paris several times in different seasons. It is always romantic! There is something about the architecture, statues, bridges, and river that make Paris romantic.
You can walk hand in hand along the River Seine or have a romantic picnic by the water. Just being around the Eiffel Tower makes you feel special. There are many cozy restaurants to share a meal with your loved one. I do love Paris.
Santorini, Greece
I went to Santorini a few years ago with a girlfriend, but I keep telling my partner that we should go there together. It’s a perfect place to get away for intimacy.
The scenery in Santorini is simply breathtaking. You can walk along the cliffside path and admire the views of white buildings and deep blue sea.
Sunsets on Santorini are a lover’s dream. Enjoying a peaceful and scenic dinner at one of the many restaurants perched on the steep cliffs is a great way to feel the romance.
Vernazza, Cinque Terre, Italy
Vernazza is my favorite among the five tiny towns in the Cinque Terre. From the moment I saw it, I fell in love with Vernazza.
The many colored buildings, the green rolling hillside, and the surrounding blue sea make this spot ideal for romance.
From the Cinque Terre walking trail, I hiked to this spot on two different occasions with my partner. We both agreed that Vernazza was a magical place.
Florence, Italy
Another Italian romantic city you’ll love is Florence. Walking through the old town and standing on the famous Ponte Vecchio bridge, you’ll feel the romantic vibes of this place.
You can walk the 463 steps to the top of the Duomo and admire the 360 degree view. You can have a candlelit dinner in one of the many traditional Italian restaurants.
I’m sure you’ll find Florence as romantic as I did.
What are your most romantic spots in Europe? There are many more I could showcase, but these make the top of my list. Happy Valentine’s Day to you!

Great ideas to share! I can tell you have been there yourself. (I’m sure you would make a great itinerary because of that). I’m not traveling much these days, but it sure sounds VERY inviting!! Thanks for sharing. Great pictures!
