Bucket List Travel for Retirees
This is a guest post from Simon about where to travel after retirement. Even if you’re not approaching retirement, you may find these ideas useful for planning a bucket list travel trip!
Retirement, for many, can be summed up by a big question mark. After working most of your life, what comes next? Planning your retirement life can be both stressful and exciting, but the exciting part comes into special focus when you start thinking about travel. This is bucket-list territory, and with nothing but free time during your retirement years, the world is your oyster.
Funding Your Travels
Before you start looking at places to visit, you may have reservations about how exactly you’re going to fund your ideal retirement travel. After all, retirement implies a finite amount of money being available to you, which can be scary given the high cost of flights and accommodation.
One idea for ensuring you have enough spare income to travel is to bolster your budget with an equity release scheme. This scheme allows you to access some of your home’s value in advance of its future sale. Your house remains yours, you can forestall repayments until your house gets sold, and you can access enough money to render travel money.
If you’re looking for a few bucket list destinations, consider the below areas.
New Zealand
New Zealand is considered a faraway destination for most people but is well worth the long journey to get there. One of its biggest claims to fame is providing the locations for the Lord of the Rings film trilogy These areas of New Zealand are stunning to visit even without the Tolkien connection.
This scenic country is known for adventure sport as well as an extremely relaxed place to explore.
One amazing place to visit in retirement is Scandinavia, a region of northern Europe which includes Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
Here you will find a vast array of cultures, disciplines, and incredible landscapes.
One of the highlights of the Scandinavian Peninsula is to the north where within the Arctic Circle the Northern Lights can be viewed.

There’s something for every traveller here, from the spiritualist to the historian to the foodie. Foodie lovers will have more fun than anyone else given the amazing local delicacies in Vietnam to discover!
